"MOTHERS OF THE DISAPPEARED" is a song by the rock band U2, composed in 1987.
The song was inspired during the Amnesty International's A Conspiracy of Hope tour.
 There, the leader of U2, Bono, learned about The Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo.

What are the Missing People?
Regarding the disappearance of people for political reasons, Amnesty International says that forced disappearance is a serious violation of human rights committed by the states or with their collaboration. A disappearance conceals the identity of its author. If there is no prisoner, no corpse, no victim, then nobody is accused of anything.
Only between 1976 and 1978, 22.000 people were registered as disappeared.  In the press of the time, news was read about the death of "subversives" in supposed clashes with the security forces and in the streets people talked about who did not know where they were and without further questions was justified with "for something will be".
On December 1979, in a press conference, Jorge R. Videla said: "In the face of the disappeared, if the man appeared he would have an X treatment. And if the disappearance became certainty of death, he would have a Z treatment. But it is a mystery, it is a missing person, it has no entity, it is not dead, it is not alive, it is disappeared, we can not do anything about it".
